Welcome
Today about the project that lasts the longest in the history of our company, because almost half of its existence. It all started in 2016, when Filip Jereczek-Bambrowicz, the founder of ModelMaker, received a proposal to paint the Tiger Su-22UM-3k. As a result, he also managed to actively participate in the painting works carried out at Military Air Works No.2 in Bydgoszcz at the beginning of 2017.
Since then, we have planned to release decals for this plane. And because it was available in two versions, the original one made in 2004 and the current one, the plan was to design a set that would allow any of these paints to be made.
The first obstacle we encountered was ... the lack of models. At that time, there were no models of the two-seater Su-22 in any scale (we know it was in 1/72, but do not count this old model ; )) Finally, in 2018, the Kitty Hawk model appeared, and then Hobby Boss in 1/48, also the first Su-22 from Modelsvit appeared at the same time and it was clear that sooner or later a two-seater would appear.
We started working on the decal and HERE we announced it for the first time, exactly four years ago. Unfortunately Modelsvit was a bit delayed, you asked, we didn't know what to tell you, and so it turned out until September 2019. All the time, the decal design was just a preliminary draft. Preparing for printing and adjusting to the models required a lot of work. Remember that at that time we were implementing the F-16 ZEUS project and we focused on it then.
In the meantime, there was also a change of concept, we decided that the decal will be dedicated in 1/48 to the Hobby Boss model. For partly private reasons (maybe someday we will tell you how Kitty Hawk treated us ;) ) We wrote about the final HERE after another year...
In fact, it was then that the work began in earnest and after a few months we could show the progress HERE As you can see, we still wanted to release both versions of the painting. And then Kitty Hawk decided to go bankrupt ...
We have to admit that at this point the project was literally hung up on a peg, because we didn't know what to do with it. Along the way, there were also problems with the printing of the set, of course Cartograf was the first choice, which increases the quality, but also the price. Around 2019, however, another option appeared and unfortunately it disappeared just as quickly, which also caused a delay
The project is extremely difficult and laborious. The decal itself must be matched to the specific model. We discussed the subject in our group, then among trusted modellers. In the end, we made a number of compromises with ourselves. The 1/48 decal will be dedicated to the Kitty Hawk model. Despite the bankruptcy of KH, it is still available, many of you reported that you keep one in stock especially for this decal and finally the molds were purchased by Trumpeter / Hobby Boss and even though they have their Fitter models, we hope for re-releases. The second compromise is the decal will only be for a new painting. For three reasons. Firstly, understandably, it is closer to us (for example because of the name on the undercarriage flap, secondly, more modelers declared their willingness to make a newer version, and finally, thirdly, both paints on one sheet, without stenciling, in 1/48 scale is a sheet B4, which can only be printed in Cartograf! You don't want to know how much this set would cost in detail…. :)
However, there is also some novelty in this project. We will add to the set separately printed black stripes and masks for yellow-orange surfaces, which will give you the opportunity to choose the execution: full decal or mask + decal, everything will be available with a set of stencils.

Finally, we will add, do not cross out the old painting. In the future, we would like to release a second set, the first original Tiger paint. We'll see what will come of it.
In a word, after more than four years from painting, we present you an almost finished decal design adapted to Kitty Hawk models in 1/48 and Modelsvit in 1/72 scale. There are still minor corrections, finishing the mask design, preparation for printing, but we should have printing files prepared by mid-November. With a bit of luck, the premiere will be at Christmas :)
We immediately announce that the MiG-21 in Polish service - Exclusive edition is coming to the table right after the Tiger.
So much for the Tiger. We apologize for this lengthy text, but many of you did not understand why it took so long and we wanted to explain to you the most important reasons.
At the end of the week, we'll give you another sneak peak, maybe we'll surprise you;)
Best regards
ModelMaker Team
PS: We hope this English version is understandable. It's a large text and we are not perfect in English ;)
